Complacency – just saying that word makes me cringe. It means staying on autopilot and being comfortable with the status quo. We have one life and we’re all making an exit one day, so why live the status quo, when a life of greatness is possible?

Stay ready to seize opportunities. Even if you’re perfectly content with where you are in life, know that possibilities to learn, grow, and advance are everywhere and ready for you to lean into them. How do you stay ready?

Be positive – attitude is everything. I’m sure you’ve heard of The Secret. In this book, Rhonda Byrne talks about the law of attraction. When you emanate positivity, that’s the energy you attract back. Opportunities are attracted to those who are positive.

Have hope – this is the spirit that opportunity lives in. Keep the dreamer mindset you had more innocently and readily as a child. Don’t let your past failures or mistakes inhibit you from the possibility that tomorrow new and exciting things await you.

Network & nurture relationships – meaningful human connection is vital. Surround yourself with those you can learn from, will challenge you, and help you elevate your game. Nurture the relationship with these game-changers. When they trust in you, these individuals can unlock new doors for you.

Trust in yourself – believe in yourself and your abilities. Focus on learning (especially about what lights you on fire) and strengthening your mindset everyday (e.g., through meditation, books, podcasts, community groups) and this will help you keep your confidence and trust in yourself high.

Be patient – Buddha says “Be patient. Everything comes to you at the right moment.” It may not always feel like it, especially in a culture of instant gratification. When you stay consistent, persistent, and determined, your daily actions will eventually take you to the destination you’re meant to be at.

Take action – be proactive and put yourself out there. If there is something that you want, don’t be afraid to go after it. You’ll never know what’s possible unless you try. If you don’t get what you want, try again. The best of the best like Oprah, Jeff Bezos, and Tom Brady didn’t get to where they are overnight.

Are you ready to seize the next opportunity that awaits you?
