Convenience kills. This is one of the most powerful messages I’ve been reflecting on since I interviewed Bestselling Author, Joe Templin. He wrote Everyday Excellence, a #1 Amazon bestseller. Joe talks about how choosing the path of excellence over convenience is what leads to sustainable results.

So why does convenience kill? It’s because choosing the easy button is the acceptance of the status quo. Doing what’s convenient gets you stagnant outcomes – comfort over growth, complacency over courage, and mediocrity over greatness. Remember that what got you here, won’t get you there.

I listened to Ed Mylett’s book, The Power of One More: The Ultimate Guide to Happiness and Success. He too highlights how the most extraordinary things we’ve achieved in life likely started out as inconvenient. Whether it’s winning a championship game, getting in tip top shape, or getting promoted – these accomplishments require sacrifice and grit (not ease and comfort!).

Inconvenience is getting up early to workout, going to bed late to study for the exam, working the extra hours to overdeliver for a client, having the difficult conversation now vs. later, and coaching your child’s softball team even after you just poured your energy into work for 10 hours. On the other side of inconvenience is growth and greatness.

If you listen to my podcast, Born Unbreakable you know that I am amid embarking on three new things: writing a book, launching a 90-day transformational program, and starting a rental operations business. None of these things are convenient – they’re hard; sometimes even painful and that’s exactly how I know I am learning and growing.

What conveniences are keeping you in your comfort zone? What might you approach differently to become the next best version of yourself?
